Author: Kim Vogel Sawyer
Genre: Christian Romance
Synopsis: As three friends who grew up in the same orphanage head off to college
together, they each harbor a cherished dream. Libby wishes to become a
famous journalist, Pete plans to study to become a minister, and
Bennett wants to join a fraternity and have as much fun as possible.
But as tensions rise around the world on the brink of World War I, the
friends' differing aspirations and opinions begin to divide them, as
well. And when Libby makes a shocking discovery about Pete's family,
will it drive a final wedge between the friends or bond them in ways
they never anticipated?
My thoughts: I first found this book in the CBD (Christian Book Distributors) catalog and it was on sale for $4 and it sounded interesting. However, I decided to check on our libraries website and see if they had it. My philosophy is that if you're interested in a book but don't think you're likely to read it more than once, check it out from the library if they have it - it's cheaper than buying it yourself. :)
What I loved about this book was that the main character was so much like me - or should I say I was like her. She's a headstrong, I-can-take-care-of-myself type of girl. But when things around her start falling apart, she has to stop and evaluate where her life is going. In the end, she finds peace and happiness in a relationship with Jesus Christ. She grows and changes in her friendships and finally finds the home she always longed for when she was a child. This book is touching but it has enough adventure and (good, clean, sweet :) romance in it to keep it interesting. And don't even get me started on the characters' first adventure at college...it's quite funny acutally. But you'll have to read the book yourself to find out what happens. Happy reading!
P.S. I'm not fishing for advice but since this is my first "official" review, is there anything you liked about it? Things I could change/make more interesting in describing the book? Just leave your comments in the box below - I'm always open to suggestions on how to better my writing. Thanks! :)

The Magnetic Connection - preview

Following a solar storm and wildly surging seas, the Miami Coast Guard receives an SOS in old radio code claiming to be from a UFO disabled at the bottom of the ocean, needing help to restore lift power. As the news goes global, nations and interests maneuver to possess its technology, without regard for the aliens’ rights or lives.
Meanwhile, marine biologists Drew Culhane and Kathy Ennis discover and have secret contact with a second UFO. At odds with each other, the power of bureaucracy, and partisan agendas, they take on a perilous commitment to help rescue the aliens—but find themselves in a race against time. They and the world are soon in the middle of a fantastic saga which ultimately reveals the truth about a legendary mystery.
The Magnetic Connection, set in the fabled Bermuda Triangle, captivates the reader with a perfect blend of science fiction, adventure, intrigue, and human drama. The author skillfully leads us on a highly believable and riveting contemporary adventure story, touching both mind and heart with a fresh perspective and personal challenge. Don’t miss it!
My thoughts: This book sounds so intriguing and full of adventure...and besides that, the author is the grandma of one of my closest friends! How cool is that! :) This post is a preview/advertisement for this book. I have not read it yet, but I really want to!
